No sooner had I written this post, EMC release Service Pack 1 for RecoverPoint 4.1 with the fix included.
This is an important release as finally environments that are on 4.x have a validated upgrade path to 4.1/SE that will pass the EMC mandated change control process, which has been many months in the making. This also fixes the pesky vCenter server entry issue I detail in the blog.
4.1 was a big release with Metro Point Support, Snap-based replication and heavy WAN Dedup improvements, and the huge improvements by way of the Unisphere Management interface. SP1 builds on this with some pleasing new additions;
Checkout the 4.1SP1 Release Notes for all the details.
Releases of the vRPA’s appear to be well synced, with the 4.1SP1 OVF format file available also.
…and that is hot on the heels of the recent announcement that Recoverpoint for VMs is now FREE to USE. You are however required to pay for support, which you should do if it is used in Production.
I like EMC’s changing stance on releasing software, and this could very well be a game-changer in this space. RecoverPoint is a Tier-1 product that is effectively without equal in the market, and it keeps getting better.

I’ll be running a version of this up in the lab soon and will detail the install then.
