EMC debuts the VNXe1600

I rarely post articles with a marketing slant, but have allowed myself an exception here to ease back into writing after a short hiatus, and this looks like a product I could find some good use cases for 🙂

EMC have recently released a new member to the VNX/e family, the VNXe1600.   Clearly aimed at the smaller end of the market, using the well refined VNXe software platform which differs markedly from the traditional Unisphere platform in terms of ease of use and “wizard” based deployment and configuration management.

Sitting below the VNXe3200 and including a rich feature set, this would seem to be a good fit for price sensitive markets where other vendors like Dell have done well with the low end MD series of arrays, amongst other brands offerings.

The inclusion of a FAST Cache, Native Asynch replication and proper ROW Snapshot capabilities would also make this a good choice for ROBO situations and for the first time I can recall, standard inclusion of dual CNA’s per Storage Processor.

For astute readers, note that the native replication feature will provide Asynchronous block replication to other VNXe1600, VNXe3200 and vVNX arrays. So we now have a replication option to include the virtual VNX platform. Interesting indeed.

With pricing suggesting a starting configuration available for under 10k, this makes for a value packed unit from a trusted brand.
